Moving Windows Server 2008 Image from Hyper-V to Windows 7 Virtual PC
Converting between virtual and physical machines as well as different versions of virtual platform can introduce all kinds of headaches, primarily as a result of the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer).
I simply wanted to move a Hyper-V image to Virtual PC or Windows 7 and found the image wouldn't boot. However, a quick and easy approach if your image happens to be Windows Server 2008 R2 is to simple set the boot flag to automatically detect the HAL on bot via MSCONFIG:
